All of us here at Rag-NERD-rok came to a surprising realization a few months ago: apparently we’re pretty good at roleplaying. It never really dawned on us that during those countless hours spent in basements and tents (we’ll get to that in the episode), we were honing a skill. But now here we are with our very own podcast, and people really seem to enjoy the Actual Plays we post. So much so that our APs seem to be more popular than our actual podcasts (which we’re going to keep doing, if only out of spite). We decided to impart some of the skill and knowledge we’ve cultivated through hours of playing, dice-rolling and in-fighting. We talk about how we all conceive and play our characters and even share horror stories from our most infamous games. Later, we all share our favorite stories about Will playing in our games and his foibles.

So join us for this RPG-gasmic episode of RNR!

Horror is growing beneath the sleepy Hudson Valley town of Barrington, New York. A history professor hunting in the woods stumbles upon a naked young man wandering aimlessly among the trees and receives the shock of his life. The man, a former student of his, was murdered eighteen months prior in a drug deal gone bad, and now, he’s been resurrected as a living vegetable. Soon, a county patrolman, his recent collar, and a doctor at the local hospital join the investigation. When another plant zombie shambles onto the scene, the group must confront a slew of pressing questions, and find the answers fast. How many undead are there in Barrington? Is this an epidemic? Where are they coming from? And most importantly, how can they be stopped?

(NOTE: This game was played over a marathon five hour session. We have decided to split it into two AP files, rather than release it all at once, because even though we’re hilarious role players, we realize that you out there in Internetland probably have better things to do than sit and listen to us bullshit for five hours. As such, look for “The Hungry Earth, Part II” in two weeks!)

In this session, our Firewall Sentinels wrap up the personal missions they began last time. Elis must keep a devastating virus from wreaking havoc on the mesh when a vengeful AGI tries to wipe out the company that created it. Gavin delves deeper into the dangerous underworld of the Martian drug trade, forging an alliance between The Night Cartel in Valles New Shanghai and an upstart manufacturer in order to keep the peace in Elysium. Dalton locates his mark, but devises a dangerous gambit in order to free himself from his bounty once and for all. Damien shows just how despicably far he’ll go in order to take revenge on an escaped slave who dares to blackmail him. And finally, Lucas completes his mission for Direct Action with a typically precise application of deadly force. This week’s Actual Play is a hair-raising, character-driven game of Eclipse Phase, so don’t miss it!

Ah, Troll 2. That masterpiece of bad cinema. It’s one of those movies that’s so bad, it’s good. It’s also a movie that will stick with you for years to come. One of the reasons it’s so memorable is because of the…um, unique characters. Especially Credence Leonore Gielgud (of ancient Druidic origins). Played by Deborah Reed, Credence was the leader of the goblins. Or the townsfolk. Or both? Are the townsfolk all goblins? Who the hell knows?

Anyway, we were fortunate enough in this episode to get Deborah Reed on the phone and interview her about her character and her experiences making such a memorable film. If you haven’t seen Troll 2 yet, do it now. We’ll be here when you get back.

After the interview, Derek (who you’ve heard from our many Eclipse Phase games) joins Ryan and Meyer to talk about their favorite experiences from New York Comic Con 2012 (Erik, Ed and Alex couldn’t make it, mostly because of a combination of lack of funds and suckitude).

So take a listen to this extra spooky Halloween episode of Rag-NERD-rok. And sorry for the delay, folks. Blame that bitch, Sandy.
