This month, we tackle that crazy little thing called fanon. When the creators of your favorite media leave you in the dark, the impulse to speculate and try to shed some light is only natural. What does this mean for the average geek media aficionado in the digital age? Head canon, fan theories, and works of fan fiction, art and more! Join the Rag-NERD-rok Crew as we discuss some of our thoughts on the matter, along with examples from fandoms we’ve participated in. Afterwards, we’ll scramble to come up with a sketch in Ed’s absence, and read a brand-new five star review!

Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today in remembrance of the Nintendo Wii, a console that will live in the hearts of families and casual gamers for years to come. Join the Rag-NERD-rok Crew as we reminisce about the good points and the bad about gaming on the Wii, from the fun-as-hell party games to the piles of useless plastic Wii-mote attachments we’ve collected over the years. Then, we turn our eyes to the future: the Wii-U. What does Nintendo have in store for the next generation of console gaming, and how will it measure up? We’ll give you our opinions on the new system, along with our predictions and recommendations. Later, Erik has a brand-new, original sketch for us — or, at least, something he blatantly ripped off from Ed. Give it a listen!

Woo whee. That apocalypse sure was something, wasn’t it? Remember all of the explosions and death? We didn’t want to take any chances, so all of the Rag-NERD-rok guys hunkered down in the Rag-NERD-bunker to await our eventual demise. We figured that, while we were down there, we might as well record a podcast episode. And what better way to ring in the end of the world than by talking about our favorite things that we all discovered in 2012? After that, we decided to spend some time talking about the things we were going to miss in 2013 because the world had ended. There’s also a Will Interview, because we wanted to end our time on this planet with a smile.

This episode was recorded in our bunker on Dec. 21 and posted automatically. Hopefully we’re all alive in the future, in which case most of this is superfluous. If not, it’s been nice knowing you, Planet Earth.

All of us here at Rag-NERD-rok came to a surprising realization a few months ago: apparently we’re pretty good at roleplaying. It never really dawned on us that during those countless hours spent in basements and tents (we’ll get to that in the episode), we were honing a skill. But now here we are with our very own podcast, and people really seem to enjoy the Actual Plays we post. So much so that our APs seem to be more popular than our actual podcasts (which we’re going to keep doing, if only out of spite). We decided to impart some of the skill and knowledge we’ve cultivated through hours of playing, dice-rolling and in-fighting. We talk about how we all conceive and play our characters and even share horror stories from our most infamous games. Later, we all share our favorite stories about Will playing in our games and his foibles.

So join us for this RPG-gasmic episode of RNR!

Ah, Troll 2. That masterpiece of bad cinema. It’s one of those movies that’s so bad, it’s good. It’s also a movie that will stick with you for years to come. One of the reasons it’s so memorable is because of the…um, unique characters. Especially Credence Leonore Gielgud (of ancient Druidic origins). Played by Deborah Reed, Credence was the leader of the goblins. Or the townsfolk. Or both? Are the townsfolk all goblins? Who the hell knows?

Anyway, we were fortunate enough in this episode to get Deborah Reed on the phone and interview her about her character and her experiences making such a memorable film. If you haven’t seen Troll 2 yet, do it now. We’ll be here when you get back.

After the interview, Derek (who you’ve heard from our many Eclipse Phase games) joins Ryan and Meyer to talk about their favorite experiences from New York Comic Con 2012 (Erik, Ed and Alex couldn’t make it, mostly because of a combination of lack of funds and suckitude).

So take a listen to this extra spooky Halloween episode of Rag-NERD-rok. And sorry for the delay, folks. Blame that bitch, Sandy.
